Homework

2.  Reich is trying to persuade his audience that the number of highway deaths have gone down, not because of safer vehicles, or because roads have become safer, but simply because the economy has affected soo many people negatively but has caused fewer deaths on the highways to occur.
3.  Reich's attitude toward the topic seems like he just wants to disprove everyone who has come up with dofferent reasons, and he wants to inform his audience by using logical reasoning backed up by reasearch and information.
6. It seemed like this sentence wasn't targeted to his audience, but rather to people who have stated and came up with different reasons as to why the number of deaths on the highway have gone down, so i say right on Reich!!!
8. Reich seems very credible, he seems to well informed on the subject, presenting information done from reasearch and then stating the cause of the effect, he presents his information in a way that it can relate to any person who comes across his blog. On top of all of that he works at a university, and im pretty sure they accept facts rather than opinions.
9. Reich mentions the NHSA in his first paragraph to catch the readers attention and to state an effect caused by many things, he then goes on by expanding on the subject presented in the first paragraph, and he also mentions the NHSA to demonstrate that he didn't just make up a fact but rather took it from a credible source.

Inspired by Hemmingway.

I was lost, couldn't find a reason for anything, i felt like nothing could make me happy, at least not a real happy. Everything that would bring me a bit of happiness, would always be short lived, never lasted long, and left me looking for a new joy, but none ever came. However there was one girl who's life impacted me, and made me ask for a change...

As i walked into the miami-dade county yellow school bus, numbered 3016, i couldn't stop but thinking "Ask her, ask her, ASK HER!!!"

I sat down in the typical two people bus seat, and she was  sitting right in front of me, my mind kept on "stop stalling and ask her, what does it her to ask?"

I poked her shoulder, nervous as i could be, and as she turned around i opened my mouth "hey brendi, how were your classes today"

"oh they were good, but i can't wait to go home and nap" she said, with a smile on her face, as if she was happy to talk to me.

Her name was Brendi, and she was  a very god friend of mine, but she had a certain quality in her life that i wanted to share.

"Yeah i know, school is such a dreading bore" i responded with a little smile.

"i wanted to ask you something brendi, if thats okay with you"

"yeah sure, what is it?" the smile was still there.

"well i was wondering, you know..." i was getting nervous, i had no idea how to really approach the subject, what would her reaction be, would it be good? bad? uncertain?

"what is it miguel?" she started asking, now a bit anxious, but still with the smile.

"i know this sounds a bit crazy, but i've been wanting to ask you this for days now" my voice was already getting shaky.

"yeah........" i could tell she was getting a little worried now, i mean everybody could guess i might be trying to ask her out, but everybody would be wrong.

"look i wanted to know what time and days does your church have a service?...... and would it be okay if i went?"

the smile came back, i could see the joy in her face, she started clapping, and i bet if she might have even hugged me if a chair wasn't in the way.

"Are you serious miguel??? oh my God, that makes me so happy, i was hoping you'd ask me that one day" She was full of joy, and it was the reaction i was hoping for. as she smiled and jumped a bit my nerves calmed down.

"Yeah im serious, i want a change in my life, and i've seen you, and want what you have, i want to be better and happy" i said, also smiling now.

Brendi then gave me the details of the church services, i went the very next sunday, accepted Christ as my Saviour, and can honestly say since that day my life has been a blessing. Amen :)

5 Events that get me going!

Immigration. Now the reason this topic gets to me, the reason it gets me going is because im here because of an immigrant who  immigrated here, just making that clear. And im sure there are many families, possibly big families who are in this "free" country because of an immigrant relative; but enough of that, lets get to the point, immigration and the laws that are coming against it. I personally don't think people should exaggerate about how immigration is ruining our country, our economy, and our life - for the dramatic ones. Immigration has actually helped our country, i mean this country was made by immigrants and has been remade by them as well - as said by peter duran in his article "Do immigrants benefit America?". The way i see it, and pretty much every history book in the world is that we aren't natives to this country, we didn't grow out of the ground, and we weren't first! Our ancestors way back then, the pilgrims in the Mayflower compact were, whats the word? oh yes thats right. Immigrants. So what right do we have to treat immigrants today the way we do, its not only unamerican, its wrong. Many people complain that immigrants steal our jobs, not true. According to Szabo, Zelnick and Erickson, P.C, a corporate immigration counsel, that through several economic studies it is a FACT that immigrants don't take jobs, they actually create more jobs and better the economy. My basic point is that we need immigrants, they are a huge part of this country ad keep it alive. they have always been here, and if we start just eliminating them, things won't look good for USA.

Second i want to bring up a recent event that could have occured, was the burning of the Koran. It all started from a facebook page post. Florida preacher Terry Jones, called for everyone to follow him in the movement to burn a koran on Sept. 11, and to dub that they as "Burn a Koran day". Crazy right? well the worst part is he was serious, the good news is it didn't happen, just days before the actual event, Thursday sept. 9 to be exact, he said that he would not follow through but that it is on  a definate hold. Personally i find this action, even the thought to be wrong. Its not a matter of belief or even right or wrong, its a matter of respect. No matter what one believes, you must always have respect for the others differences. Burning the Koran would have been a huge disrespect, and it would not have brought a single solution, but rather more problems. I am a man of Christ and i believe through faith everything is possible, and that it wuld be wrong to take that action at these times. I understand he might have been angry and insulted, but you don't make a person better by disrespecting them. This is not the only time this pastor has disrespected the Islamic people, he wrote a book called 'Islam is of the devil" and even had KIDS wearing shirts displaying that. The more i get into this story the more it seems its just a personal issue for HIM. Finally i believe that this burning should be put on  temporary hold, there's no just reason for it.

Now i want to talk about something simpler, take a little break. Smoking, i hate it, soooooo much. I don't hate people who smoke, i just hate that they do, and that its not even in their control. Now the reason i hate smoking, not saying i do it, is because its just all around bad. First it stinks, its a smell you don't want to be around. personally when someone is smoking around me i hold my breath. Second its bad for you, it ruins  you physically outside and inside - skin, teeth, eyes, and CANCER!!! and last, it becomes an addiction. Now what im trying to say it should be discouraged, lets create a generation that doesn't smoke, or at least smokes less. Most smokers start young and once they've done it A FEW times, they are hooked. And yeah people try to quit, but nicotine has an deadly addictive power, it can be beat, but its hard and can be costly. my point lets try not to smoke, because not only you are affected, second-hand smoke kills too.

Welfare, for me its a hate love relationship. reason being, first some people really need it, some people come to points where they need real help from our governments and welfare comes in handy. with help like wic, food stamps, section 8, etc. there are people who use it TO THEIR BENEFIT. But on the other hand there always has to be abuse, and this is where the hate comes. Some people get welfare, and NEVER get off it. Those same people then never get a single job, or even try for that matter. Then these same people have more children than they can even support and just get more money. i think the government should put a limit on welfare, if you didn't make a difference in your life, then oh well, but i want the abuse to stop. what makes all this even worse is that some of these people get money from the government, which by the way is our taxes, and at the same time have under the tablle jobs. this is all opinion and from experience in my local neighborhood and even outside of it, but i think that instead of the government giving people money to do nothing, it should be put into something that will benefit everyone.

And finally i want to leave a note on something calm and that is the environment, the environment is very important, its what keeps us living. and everybody keeps saying "Go Green, Go Green, Go Green" well i think everbody should, at least with one thing, thats doable in their life style, think about it their are millions of people in the world, so if everyone does one thing it can only benefit the environment. Honestly things are looking bad right now, and we need to fix it. i will continue more on this next time.

i got all my informatiopn from these sites
